Working with 12 or 24 volt DC might seem safe since the voltage is low and you don't often get a shock. However, the amperage can be very high and it is easy to set fire to the vehicle if no fuse is fitted. Using inline fuses for solar systems is very handy for finding faults too. It is easier to remove a fuse, than to disconnect a cable, when fault finding.

WARNING: Never connect anything to the battery without using a fuse.
